Previous Concert
SUMS last concert was the Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor, held in the Great Hall of the University of Sydney on 22nd and 23rd of May. A great crowd attended to see a full strength choir preform with the passion and enthusiasm that SUMS is renowned for.
Previous Concert
The 51st Annual Festival of Carols (or "Carolfest") was held on Saturday December 5th and Sunday 6th. Modelled on the King's College, Cambridge Christmas tradition of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, Carolfest offered its own unique twist of classical and traditional seasonal repertoire from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

In September, SUMS preformed at the Tom Mann Theatre with a concert of four-part harmonies of popular songs from artists such as Beatles, Seal and Beach Boys

Our last concert was the fabulous Carmina Burana performed in the University Great Hall and Conservatorium's Verbruggen Hall. To packed houses, the university choir and orchestra gave a two brilliant performaces.

The 50th Annual Festival of Carols which was held on Sat 6th and Sun 7th December. Kindly supported by a generous grant from the University, its featured a Brass ensemble, commissioned works from past Carolfests and a stunning array of carols from around the world.

The Sydney University Musical Society is the undergraduate choir of the University of Sydney.
Founded in 1878, it is the one of the oldest secular choirs in Australia. It has acquired an enviable reputation in the Sydney music scene, and has been regularly invited to perform with Sydney’s principal professional choirs. SUMS has had some noteworthy achievements over the years, including giving the Australian premieres of Handel's Dixit Dominus and Bach's Mass in B minor; and singing during the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron at the Sydney 2000 Opening Ceremony.
The Society has performed with orchestras such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Youth Orchestra and the SBS Youth Orchestra.
Most importantly, SUMS combines it's musical achievements with a great social atmosphere, with lots of organised and informal social events, and you do not need to audition (or even have any musical experience) to join in and sing with us.
In fact, while SUMS is the "official" undergradutate choir of the university we have a broad range of membership, from undergrads, post-grads, recent grads, and the odd "elder statesman" who are great for a yarn or three at the pub!
SUMS sings many varied and diverse pieces, performing its major concerts (usually three series per year) in the Great Hall of the University and other prestigious venues. SUMS also sings wherever and whatever anyone wants us to - in shopping centres, ferries, to drunken students in Manning Bar.
Singing with SUMS is guaranteed to be like no other experience you have had or will have. So why not try us out?

SUMS is also available as an option in the undergraduate subject Ensemble Performance run by the University of Sydney Arts Music Department. This subject is available to all general undergraduate degrees at the University of Sydney, and requires rehearsal attendance, concert performance, and a written assessment.
